A piece of the retail industry

Well its been a long weekend and a long time since i updated this post. Lot of things have happened over the weekend and i m sure a few of you would have been wondering what exactly i was hinting at in the previous write up. Well the service that i had in mind was that of a comprehensive retail store that not only sells switches, fans, wiring etc but also provides an extensive range of all available options of these categories.

The reason for extensive is because how often have we been exposed to the complete range of fans or switches available before we make a buying decision? I cant think of any. And how often do we see a newspaper add featuring a better and aesthetically more appealing product than the one we have already purchased. Quite a few times i would say.

Who selects the wires that are used in your homes, you or the builder? The builder. Who is responsible for malfunctioned wires leading to trips and short circuits? Admit it, its you. So why should the builder decide the grade and make of wire to be used. Although no one knows many brands but there have been various safety features added to home and office wiring which need to be communicated to consumers.

Products like these are longterm purchases and one would not think of buying a replacement unless there is a problem with the current set or they are renovating their premises. Please note i am talking about repeat buyers and not first time ones who would obviously want to purchase a spanking new matching set of electrical goods to go along with their well done up house.

A recent research showed that as many as 80-85% people were not happy with the fittings that came along with their flat as standard accessories. This also included bathroom fittings incase you are wondering. However of these 85%, 70% would change the bathroom fittings while furnishing their house, while only a paltry 20% would get the electrical fittings (read: switches and wirings) changed. Reason as it may not be too surprising was that the people had too much on their hands getting their house furnished and were not game to 'hunt' for other fittings. 90% of the people who ended up changing the electricals had hired a professional interior decorator. So as far as the lay man if concerned, he does not want to go to a Lohar Chawl to hunt fro

My very first idea

Hi Everyone,
Thought of starting this post just as a platform to discuss the various start up ideas that i had in mind for running my own firm. However haven't been able to implement any of them so far due to my acute laziness but hope to do so soon. (Hey i ain't that lazy cos i got around to this blog right)

One might wonder why exactly am i discussing my ideas in a public post as this one but the fact behind the whole thing is that since i might not have implemented it yet, it would still give me immense pleasure to see the idea going live either with help from someone or watching someone else do it. It might just be a possibility that someone like minded runs into this post.

Some of the ideas that i have are weird and zany while the others might be serious money spinners in the long run. Anyone else who has any ideas is free to post them in this blog too. Hope to regularly update this blog.

It all started when i was in the 12th grade when i decided that i would want to do something on my own. Since then i would brainstorm with myself thinking that what is the one thing that people would need the most in todays competitive scenario. What seemed to be a perfect world suddenly began to throw numerous opportunities at me though some might be too foolish to even discuss but atleast it got me thinking. Atleast my constant pestering with my mind drove me to something like this(blogging). This being more of a first step for me to move towards my dream. Although the main concept driving my thought was to choose a stream that will enable me to make it big and which has immense potential as well as less competition. So there was this super strong urge to innovate.

Most of these ideas might be more applicable to the Indian market than to the global scenario but then there isn't anything that you cannot take to the next level right?

Let me start by posting an interesting idea that i had in the initial days of my brainstorming sessions with myself.

There is a huge market in India for electrical goods both domestic and industrial. Imagine what is the one thing that you end up buying just because you aren't aware of other models in the market? Well i would say of all the things that you buy for a new home, it is the electrical fittings that have you stumped. By electrical fittings i would mean the switches, fans, light fittings, wiring, plug points etc.

Maybe this idea has a lot to do with my background being that of someone who has been brought up amidst a growing electrical business. But let me leave you at this thought and see what you can make of it. Will publish more details of this in the next post. See you then.....
